A Gala Event in Old Tappan to Benefit Zoe’s Place

Over 120 guests gathered on October 24, 2010 at the home of Glen and Donna Lumia in Old Tappan to learn about Zoe’s Place, a Bergen County based non-profit organization providing a home and support services to Bergen County pregnant teens, homeless teen mothers and their babies. Zoe’s Place was created in 2003 and their mission is to provide safe, supervised housing as well as education and job skills as support services that will guide these young women into self-sufficiency.

A Simple Act of Kindness in Old Tappan Brings New Meaning to the Phrase “PTA”

The 2010-2011 school year budget that failed to pass, no federal funding for our district, as well as other unsettling events left many of the Old Tappan teachers discontented and dissatisfied, some even unsure of their immediate employment future. It didn’t take Heather Mauro, the newly appointed 2010-2011 PTA President to recognize the dire need for camaraderie among the parents and teachers of the Old Tappan Parent-Teacher Association. Mauro, as well as the other PTA board members, believe a PTA should truly encompass the ideas and involvement of both the parents, as well as the teachers, to provide the best environment to wholly benefit our children.

SOCES PTA Donates Signs to South Orangetown’s Three Elementary Schools

In a formal presentation ceremony held on Tuesday, June 24th, the South Orangetown Community Elementary Schools (SOCES) PTA dedicated one of three signs which they donated to the district. SOCES Co-Presidents Christine Brew-Mitchell and Theresa Costello were on hand at Tappan Zee Elementary during the dedication ceremony as were SOCES VP for TZE Ina Kaplan, Board of Education President Annmarie Uhl, Glen Lumia, President of Design Construction in Northvale, NJ and, to the delight of teacher Mrs. Mary Danner’s entire 3rd grade class, a special appearance by ZEE. The signs were installed at Tappan Zee Elementary, William O. Schaefer and Cottage Lane Elementary. “We want to thank the South Orangetown Board of Education for accepting these gifts from the SOCES PTA”, said SOCES Co-President Christine Brew-Mitchell. Special recognition and a Certificate of Appreciation was given to Glen Lumia, President of Creative Design Construction in Northvale, NJ for his donation of the installation of all three signs. SOCES VP for Tappan Zee Elementary, Ina Kaplan went over many sketches and possibilities before final plans and decisions were made as to location and design of the signs. Board of Education President Annmarie Uhl said, “This is a wonderful gift.” Uhl continued, “Now every school in the South Orangetown Central School District has an event sign in front of the building for the entire community to view upcoming school events.”

The Old Tappan Elementary School

The Old Tappan Elementary School encourages local businesses to guest speak in the classroom to encourage student involvement. Glen Lumia, president of Creative Design Construction & Remodeling Inc., provided a “Green Seminar” to fourth grade students on the importance of recycling and environmentally friendly products.

Toys for Tots®

Each year, the Toys for Tots® foundation provides joy and hope to disadvantaged children who might otherwise be overlooked during the holiday season. Creative Design Construction & Remodeling is pleased to partner with Toys for Tots® in hopes to continue to advance the cause and bring delight to children’s faces in our area. The company hosts a Toys for Tots® collection event each year during the holiday seasons to gather new and unwrapped toys to help contribute to the mission established by Toys for Tots®.

Zoe’s Place Inc. and Habitat for Humanity

Creative Design Construction & Remodeling has joined with Zoe’s Place Inc. and Habitat for Humanity to offer the opportunity to directly improve the lives of pregnant teens, teen mothers, and their babies by providing safe and supervising housing. The company has provided complimentary consulting services for the development of the newest project located in Garfield, NJ scheduled to open in late summer.

The Wounded Warrior Project

Creative Design Construction & Remodeling is pleased to offer educational workshops to help homeowners who are looking to remodel to gain knowledge on the remodeling process. The fee collected to reserve seating for the workshop is donated to The Wounded Warrior Project. This charity helps the families of the fine men and women who serve our country and who are wounded in battle.
